With over 25 years’ experience, Michael has functioned as the creative, sustainability and administrative leader of the LightBox team, collaborating on numerous private, public, interior, exterior and art projects both within the United States and abroad. His experience as a lighting designer for numerous commercial, institutional, educational and healthcare projects ranges from corporate interiors, façade illumination and trading floors to surgical suites, lab design and art projects. Michael serves on the ASHRAE 90.1 subcommittee, is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, and is an adjunct professor at New York School of Interior Design. He has been a guest speaker for the AIA, IESNA, DLFNY and USGBC.

Dustin Hsu

Associate

Dustin has a diversified lighting portfolio of corporate interiors, lobbies, laboratories and healthcare facilities. The complexity of a project drives Dustin, fully cognizant of modern design trends, to look for a design that meets both form and function while maintaining an intelligent sense of traditional application. Some of his notable projects include the Brooklyn Health Center, 61 Ninth Avenue and NYU Langone Health fit-outs.

Joyce V. Reyes, LEED AP

Associate

Joyce’s experience encompasses a wide variety of project types, including healthcare, corporate interiors, transit centers, major developments and educational facilities. Her notable projects include ColumbiaDoctors Midtown, One World Trade Center’s Marketing Center and Public School 51M. Utilizing the latest technologies, her integrated approach toward architectural lighting design has resulted in quietly blended modern design palettes that support functionality.

Julia C. Strapp

Senior Lighting Designer

Julia joined LightBox Studios in January 2021 and currently serves as a Senior Lighting Designer.  Her multidisciplinary background, with experience in non-profit communications, interior design, and lighting, positions her to approach projects holistically, with a sensitive understanding of the dynamics of both human users and the material form of a space.  She has been an integral part of the project team for corporate interiors, loading docks, laboratories, educational campuses, and healthcare facilities.  She performs illuminance calculations, daylighting studies, and renderings of lighting intent to inform a custom solution for each project’s lighting needs.

Nicholas LaDuca

Lighting Designer

Nicholas joined the LightBox team in the summer of 2022 after having worked with the group as an intern the prior year.  He started his lighting career in the theater but expanded his interests to architectural lighting while working toward his master’s degree at Parsons School of Design in Manhattan.  During the course of his studies, he discovered a passion for sustainability and biophilic design and his master’s thesis project demonstrated how lighting design can facilitate the greater integration of plants in the built environment.  He supports the LightBox team by performing calculations and rendering lighting concepts to ensure the success of each project.

Ella Wong

Lighting Designer

Ella joined LightBox Studios in 2023, bringing to the team considerable experience in lighting design as well as a unique background in marketing and public relations.  With a career that began in facade lighting and expanded to interior lighting design, her work with LightBox has focused on performing calculations to help meet client and team goals on such notable projects as 345 Hudson Street, the Vagelos Science Center at Barnard College, and The Ocean Club Four Seasons Residences on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

Alex (Xinyu) Liu

Lighting Designer

Alex (Xinyu) Liu joined LightBox Studios in 2023 as a Lighting Designer.  His introduction to the LightBox team was an internship in the winter of 2022, during which he contributed to lighting calculations and concept renders.  Before joining LightBox Studios, Alex worked in interior design and exhibition design, until he discovered his passion for architectural lighting while completing his Lighting Design degree at Parsons School of Design.  He has worked on a variety of prominent projects, including 1211 Avenue of the Americas, The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport and the Ambulatory Hub at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn.
